Branch 104 Minutes

13 September 2021

Meeting was called to order by S/M PNP John Johnson. 09 Shipmates were present. 2 members checked in via Zoom. Additionally, RPNW Danny Hunt, PRPNW/SEC/Treasurer Peg Burke, and PRPNW Bill Hall checked in on Zoom.

1709 Opening Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, and Preamble.

PNP S/M John Johnson nominated/volunteered to fill office of Branch President. Elected by acclimation.

Charter draped for S/M Len Barrett and Rich Wilson.

The minutes were called, read, and approved as submitted.

Committee Reports:

Legislative: Next VLC meeting 20 SEP at 1100. Old Ft Lewis Golf Course. VLC Legislative Reception at the Capitol on 14 JAN 2022.

Youth Activities: NTR.

Membership: 90 members in good standing. Ready to renew: Allen, Bartlett, Eller, Etapa, Forrester, Kincaid, Nabors, Travis. Past due: Miller.

Americanism/Patriotism: Theme for the 2021-2022 Essay contest “Why I am Proud to be an American”. Packets are on the tables. Get the word out.

Public Relations: Need to address what will happen with the newsletter. Website needs to be updated. Facebook active.

Finance and Audit: Still have checks. Books audited by S/M Batnick. Need to schedule a finance committee meeting to discuss status of funds.

Health and Welfare: Binnacle list: S/M John Johnson, Alvie Robbins, and Dianne Wallace.

VAVS: Some volunteers returning at American Lake. Ramping up for Christmas season donations. This is over and above normal needs listing. Volunteer services office is moving. Red Coats are returning (these are the information specialists).

Communications: (1) Request from NWRP to assist in funding for transportation at the National Convention. S/M Faubion answered the request and made a donation of $100.00 to support the cause. M/S/P to reimburse S/M Faubion $100.00.

Treasurers Report: Submitted, reviewed. Report approved. Attached.

Unfinished Business: (1) Discussion concerning moving meeting time, earlier versus set time of 1900. This has been an ongoing topic of discussion over the years. We will continue to do meetings assisted by Zoom. Will strive to improve Zoom setup. October meeting will be at the normal time of 1900. (2) Regional Convention was a success. Branch 104 placed first in Health and Welfare, Americanism Patriotism, and Public Relations. We placed second in Youth Activities and Veterans Services. (3) National Convention in Spokane Valley 02-09 OCT at Mirabeau Park Hotel and Convention Center. Batnick, Faubion, and Johnson will attend. (4) Washington State Fair. FRA booth 19-20 September will be located in the EXPO Hall. Still have slots open to man the booth. Tickets available after meeting. (5) MOH Memorial Fund for Orting. Voted to donate $200.00 at the last meeting. Who gets the check? (6) Request from S/M Peters to purchase checks and stamps. Total approx: $87.00. M/S/P to purchase.

New Business: (1) Auburn Parade. 06 NOV.

Good of the Order: (1) Memorial service for Len Barrett at Peace Lutheran Church in Puyallup, Monday, 27 SEP, 1300. Interment Tuesday, 28 SEP, 1400 at Tahoma National. (2) No services set for S/M Wilson, expect mid OCT. (3) Puyallup Veterans program will be hld on Friday, 12 NOV. Pioneer Park Pavilion featuring 18 piece Swing Reunion Orchestra, big band music. 1900-2100. Free and open to the public. (4) RPNW Danny Hunt thanked Branch 104 for the support in carrying out the Region Convention.
