Meeting for October was conducted via online meeting application, ZOOM.COM, and was hosted by S/M Branch President Len Barrett. Following Shipmates checked in and participated in the meeting: Bill Casto, Rex Faubion, Don Felthouse, Jim Jones, John Johnson, Ernie LaChapelle, Cliff Magnussen, Russ Peters, Alvie Robbins, Tom Shriver, Mark Thompson, Jim Wallace, Richard Wilson.
1910 Opening Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, and Preamble.
The minutes were called and approved as previously submitted via newsletter.
Committee Reports:
Legislative: Veterans Legislative Coalition (VLC) meetings currently being held on Zoom. VLC dues are $50.00 yearly and request received from VLC Treasurer for said dues. Also need to submit new letter of designation for our representatives.
Youth Activities: NTR.
Americanism/Patriotism: Theme for this year’s essay contest is “The Bill of Rights and me.” S/M Faubion has approached local Boy Scout troop with info about essay contest. Trying to work essay contest into their Citizenship Badge.
Membership: 95 members in good standing. One possible gain, one possible loss, one possible transfer in. “Ready to Renew” (dues are up either 30 SEP/31 OCT/30 NOV): Allen, Cruz, Eller, Gorham, Jaeger, Kincaid, Leaf, and Zavadil.
Public Relations: Website up to date, thanks to S/M Ramirez. Facebook page is active. Newsletter, Fantastic job by S/M Wilson on newsletter
Finance and Audit: Looking good.
Health and Welfare: Binnacle list: S/M Doug Eller, Bill Casto, Carl Leaf. Possibly send ecards. Jacqui.com is a source for on-line cards.
VAVS: Designation for Joe Jiminez as alternate VAVS representative still in the works. Chris Slawinski has been contacted and email received back that he would get to it in the next couple weeks. (Ongoing since March)
S/M Felthouse advised that request has been made from Rex Rimando at American Lake for support of Halloween activity for residents in the Community Living Center (CLC). Approximately 45 residents. Motion was made by S/M Felthouse to spend $50.00 to support activities. Seconded and passed. Volunteers at American Lake are still restricted. Drive through immunization clinic soon at American Lake. Get your flu shots. Plenty of other avenues to get your flu shot: Rite Aid, Costco, Walgreens. Don’t put them off.
Communications:
(1) NW Region Branch Officers Report.
(2) NW Region Committee Chair report. Branch 104 doing their part with Region Committee Chairs on 5 committees. The only way for the organization to stay viable is for members to stay active.
(3) Request from VLC Treasurer for dues and designation letter.
Treasurers Report: Submitted via Newsletter.
Unfinished Business:
(1) Auburn Veterans Day Parade, S/M John Johnson advised, will take a different look this year and will be a vehicle procession over a designated route with assign start times. Branch 104 will participate, but with only one vehicle. This is due to liability and insurance requirements. Currently Johnson, Barrett, Jones and Faubion will participate.
(2) contact list – still in process.
New Business:
(1) Treasurer request for supplies. Already budgeted. Approved.
(2) S/M Barrett talked about recent National Election Ballot counting. On-line event that was viewed by S/M Barrett, Johnson, and Felthouse.
Good of the Order:
(1) Happy Birthday Navy. 245 years.
(2) No Thanksgiving Dinner at VFW Post.
(3) Veterans Day Program at Pioneer Park Pavilion cancelled.
(4) Chili Cook Off, 14 NOV at VFW Post 2224. No fee to enter. $50.00 prize. If you want to taste, $10.00. Proceeds to Wreaths Across America. Gun Raffle will be held.
(5) Support the VFW meals, breakfast every Sunday 0800-1100. VFW kitchen shuts down on 16 NOV for renovation.
(6) Community Based Outpatient Care (CBOC). More to come on this but VA is opening up a center in Puyallup. Supposed to open JAN 2021.
2015 Meeting adjourned.
Next regularly scheduled meeting will be on 09 NOV 2020.
